25th Pol'and'Rock Festival 2019 in Kostrzyn nad Odrą has officially started on Thursday, August 1st at 3 pm. Let see what it was like...
The first day of 25th Pol'and'Rock Festival 2019 at first seemed like just another day of the Festival; various workshops at The Finest Academy of Arts, i.e. first aid practice run by GOPR (Mountain Volunteering Search and Rescue Team in Poland), books reading for all age the Festival goers in The Multicultural Village. The talk with Fr. Ludwik Wiśniewski, a Polish priest sharing some stories about his professional life, came as a big surprise and ended with a standing ovation! Earthstrike PL action took the Festival participants by storm. "Save Our Planet" posters carried by marching representatives of younger generation proved the fact that the environmental issues play also a massive role in the lives of the youth! As well as the #WasteLess action.
Hate Doesn't Play for Me
Jurek Owsiak, the man behind establishing Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation (WOŚP) which organised 25th Pol'and'Rock Festival 2019, took part in an crucial talk about very up-to-date topic - hate. Owsiak made his point in a very positive manner by basically encouraging the audience and all of us to stay open to diversity.
The Grand Opening
In the afternoon, at 3 pm sharp, the hour that every regular Pol'and'Rock Festival goers knows better than their own date of birth, the 25th Pol'and'Rock Festival 2019 in Kostrzyn nad Odrą started! Sea of waving hands, 10, 000 especially grown sunflowers up in the air, that have become part of the game since 1995, was absolutely breathtaking!
The airshow with aeroplanes (special thanks to Red Bull Paweł Czepiela & The Flying Bulls!) which entered the sky soon after the whistle opening the Festival was blown by a Polish conductor, Mr Roman Polański, made this opening even more special! Jurek Owsiak, as usual, asked all of us to repeat the Festival's Oath. The message is basically about spreading the idea of love, tolerance, brotherhood and friendship. That was a very touching and memorable moment for all of us taking part in the kick-off of the 25th Pol'and'Rock Festival 2019 in Kostrzyn nad Odrą!
Concerts on Main Stage
The first artist who started playing on Main Stage was the oldest son of the legendary Bob Marley - Ziggy Marley! Mesmerizing, chilling, both sensual and energetic sounds made the audience fall in love with the musician and his band at first sight!
Black Stone Cherry came second in this year Pol'and'Rock Festival line-up. The musicians not only gave an amazing performance, but paid a special tribute to a very special historical event that took place exactly 75 years ago in Warsaw. During the German occupation of Poland, on Agust 1st 1944 at 5pm people in Warsaw started, what's called in the history of World War II, Warsaw Uprising. To commemorate this event every year at 5 pm sharp all people throughout the whole country stop and stay silent for 1 minute. This is also an ongoing tradition at Pol'and'Rock Festival. This year the band stopped playing to pay the tribute and was proud to be part of such an important for Poles moment. Thank you for showing your respect towards our country and those who fought for the independence!
Main Stage hosted 6 more worldwide-known bands; The Adicts, Gogol Bordello, Happysad, Avatar, Crossfaith with Parkway Drive calling it a day!
